Susan E. Hickman, PhD, PsyD
After graduating summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Dr. Hickman earned a Master’s degree in Psychology and Human Development from Vanderbilt University, a Ph.D. in Child Psychology from the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota and a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology.
As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Certified Life Coach, Dr. Hickman provides consulting, instruction, coaching and clinical services to a wide range of individuals and groups with a focus on improved social, emotional and mental functioning via mental fitness skills. Her approach emphasizes letting go of the past to focus on immediate and future goals, strategic planning for goal achievement and the development of necessary mental fitness skills for mastery and maintenance across all major life areas to ensure success. She has also served individuals in correctional facilities and veterans via contract work with the United States Air force and Logistics Health (PTSD assessments).
As a driven businesswoman, Dr. Hickman has founded and/or directed multiple successful enterprises including her private practice, an Intensive Outpatient Program for eating disorders and other diagnoses and the Mental Fitness Institute. She is most passionate about ensuring that individuals have the skills they need to reach their ultimate goals and live a life that his happy, productive and peaceful.
As part of her dedication to educating the public about psychological issues, Dr. Hickman has served as a psychological expert for television and radio as well as for magazine and newspaper articles, instructed college classes, appeared as guest lecturer for large corporations and is currently producing online classes, written materials and programs focused on teaching mental fitness skills. In addition, she hosted her own radio talk show for a year on Voice America Variety Channel entitled “The Mind of the Matter,” which was designed to provide high quality information on a variety of psychological topics. Dr. Hickman writes extensively in the field and is currently working on mental fitness reports and a full-length book for females regarding the implementation of mental fitness skills in their lives.
Dr. Hickman holds memberships in numerous professional organizations such as the American Psychological Association, National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists, American Society for Clinical Hypnotherapy and the International Association for Trauma Professionals.
